In today’s project I make a simple corner bench or “L” style bench. This would be a great project to go on a porch or patio, and that is exactly where this one went. If you want to build this exact bench, check out my store list here. This will allow you to buy everything you need to make this project.
I started out cutting all my pieces to final length, except for the back boards. You can make quick work of this by using the cut list I have provided.
After you get your pieces cut to final length, you will need to take the back let pieces and cut the tapers on those legs. I made around a 15° taper on my legs. There are tons of videos out there on how to make a tapering jig, but I will make one in a future video. I mentioned that I planed the boards in this video, but that is not necessary.
After you cut those tapers, you will want to rip your cross pieces for the bench to the 2” width. Once all those boards are cut, you can move to assembling the legs. I glued and screwed these together.
You will need a front leg, back leg, and then the cross piece for the legs. You can make pretty quick work from this. Remember you will need 4 of these legs assembled the same way, and 2 assembled the opposite way. You can see what I mean in the plans.
Now that you have all of your leg assembled together, you are ready to add the seat to the bench. You can knock this out pretty quickly. Don’t forget to space those evenly.
One you have both seats done, it is time to join these together. I clamped my so it would be temporary, but I ended up adding a few screws. Remember on the “long side” you will only need to trim the bottom back rail. The others should fit neatly behind the a joining leg.
On the short side you will need to cut all of those to the 15° angle so that it matches up good in the corner. I cut those angles and to length off camera, but you can do it very easily on you miter saw.
Now it is time to add the wrap at the bottom. Again, cut these boards to length now, so that you have a good finished look.
